A huge company in Japan with many offices, many places to work, just in general, how are they?
Maybe give a hint as to what you would want to do or be doing with Nissan?
As its new foreign CEO? Pay’s good, but you will need a good exit strategy when it’s time to leave.
Do you have a music box of your size for when you wanna leave the country ready? /s
Don’t think outside of the box. Stay inside
Can i just say F%#k Nissan? It is the F’in worst. Note: worked there. I Quit.
PSA: Avoid buying nissans.. can’t say more because of NDAs but i guess my fellow engineers in the automotive industry know what i mean..
Kind of a garbage tier automotive company, I wouldn’t work for them unless I had no better option.
Worked there for 5 years. It all depends on where (R&D ? Legal ? Purchasing ?) and where physically. NTC ? NATC ? Plants ?
Also as a contractor or a permanent position (as a Nissan Employee I mean, not haken) ?
The company is huge and has many benefits. Depending on what job you do it might be a good one. Also depending on where are you in your career. I wouldn’t recommend for a mid-career change job, but if it’s your first I think it might be good, it taught me many things about this industry and how to be tough and resist to stress.
As what?
> Any red flags?
Is a huge old Japanese company with peculiarities and odd bureaucracies, but not too bad. There are a few foreigners inside.
I wouldn’t buy any of their cars…if I had to go domestic, absolutely Toyota or would consider Honda. These are the kinds of answers you will get with your vague question.
Was approached by a Nissan linked recruiter to apply for a job Nissan had available. The recruiter was really snobbish and acted like Nissan is the number one company in Japan and that I should jump through their ridiculous hoops to apply and kiss their ring while I did so (even though I was already working for a major Mitsubishi company at the time).
In the end, they gave me the runaround, sent both positive and negative replies to my application and simply wasted my time. Not sure how much was the recruiter and how much was Nissan, but 0/10 would not recommend subjecting yourself to their recruitment process.
I mean, how can one not immediately think of the way they treated Ghosn and the other guy? Those fuckers are racist and conniving. Beware, clearly the company is saturated with that being acceptable.
TLDR: A businessman whose last name was Nissan registers the domain nissan.con for his computer company of the same name. Four years later Nissan Motors get interested in the domain and try to bankrupt him to steal the domain from him.
If you go work for them your experience there may or may not be good, but in any case your reputation will take a big hit and will probably affect future employment.
I loved Nissan and had Z’s and other sports type cars over the years.
The Goshn saga really has left a bad taste in my mouth for Nissan.

I’d take it if the pay is good. Not as bad as the other people seem to say it is but don’t buy into it just because of the ‘Nissan’ branding. Don’t plan it to be a long-term thing.
I have a friend who worked there as a factory architect. They are bullies, lots of old people thinking they rule the world, he had to quit within a year (2020) because he got depressed.
Ghosn jokes aside, I am really interested in what it’s like working there. I work for an automotive company now and want to live on the Shonan coast. Nissan’s tech center is in Atsugi, so it’s tempting to transfer there.
Oh, you are the potential new guy ?
If you’re asking here in that tone, you already don’t want to work there, don’t box yourself.
Worked at global headquarters for over 3 years. Was in corporate. Good people, plagued with really long processes with multiple levels of approval. Too many initiatives, little focus and low levels of automation so lots of administrative tasks. Hard to recommend but happy to answer more specific questions via DM.
I think the big key is which division you are interested in. It’s going to be massively different working as an engineer/doing R&D vs working in a factory vs working at a dealership doing sales.
Some of their offices/teams are better than others, but it’s basically down to luck, whether you will end up in a modern work environment with somewhat forward-thinking and supportive colleagues, or in one of the remaining bastions of traditional thinking, where the angle of your hanko is more important than the actual results you produce. Lot’s of office politics and hours and hours of meetings, in any case.
I’d say it *can* add a nice-looking 2-3 years to your CV, but don’t make it your final stop. Everything I’ve done after that company has been a significant improvement, both financially and mentally.
If we are talking Nissan HQ in Yokohama, it used to be the United Nations. Very diverse, very supportive to women etc.
With Ghosn gone, the company reverted to a traditional, very much Japanese place. Can’t recommend it any longer.
I worked at or with 3 car manufacturers in Japan, can’t share specifics. Really depends on what you want to get out of it. Salaries tend to be pretty good at the big ones.
But expect lots of red tape, politics, meetings, etc., etc., big corp stuff. But it looks good on resume, these are global companies with huge sales and successful products. Just don’t expect much innovation in-house.
Been in Japan a long time, had three Nissans because of a family friend, a VW Golf, and now a Toyota. The Nissan’s are great for a year, then they start showing their age right away, creaking and cracking. No help from Nissan on the issues, so, I’d say no, don’t go there.
Having citizenship in Lebanon is a prerequisite from what I hear.

After how Nissan staged a coup and fucked over Ghosn the way they did, Nissan can go fuck themselves. I will never buy one of their cars. Ever. Working there is out of the question, but since you are asking people on Reddit – sure, go for it!
Your general 日経. Those stereotypes you’ve heard so far? It applies alright.

Thanks all. It was an eye opener. I am happy being poor with Ethics and values than be rich with stained hands transitively.
Japanese wife worked there as a body shop mechanic. Quit within a week. She got bullied and outcast for having a foreign last name. Nobody would talk to her and avoided her like the plague. Fuck Nissan.

Avoid Nissan like the plague. They’re bullies. See the Nissan vs Nissan case (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Motors_v._Nissan_Computer).
