  1. My sons’ jhs in Meguro-ku hasn’t had them for few years. And the elementary schools in the area have ones that you flip to show/hide your name, as appropriate.

  2. They’ve been removable in Fukuoka for some time now. Students just have to put them on in class.

  3. They’re all clip-on in my city already, seems like an artificial problem with a blatant solution.

  4. I’ll never know a student’s name again? “Hello, 2-C 21, how are you today?” The name tags are the only way I can try to use names when I have 650 kids. Without the name tags it’s a struggle.

    Also, my city hall has a map with every single house and the family name printed on each one, sitting right on the counter. I feel like Japan goes too far for little benefit.
