Resources to learn everyday phrases?

In a couple months I am moving to Japan for work. I have been trying to learn some Japanese for a few months in case this move happened but I am having a very hard time remembering anything.

Can you recommend resources to learn phrases I will need in everyday life. More than grammar right now I just want to learn ways to interact with people I might use in everyday situations.

I was also wondering if you could recommend office/work place shows on Netflix, Prime, Crunchyroll, or free places like YouTube that might help me learn how adults talk to each other and recognize common phrases used at work.

  1. Pimsleur is made for the situation you’re describing. It’s expensive, but many American libraries have it available on CD or on one of their digital apps (such as Libby) or you might be able to request it as an interlibrary loan.

    Edit: spelling

  2. not the best textbook, but Japanese for Busy People is pretty much all life and business related…. shopping phrases, business phrases, etc

  3. I’m using Pimsleur. It’s the best app hands down to get you speaking.

The only downfall is that you dont really dig deep into the why, you’re just given the what. But you say it so many times that it’ll stick.

Not to say that Pimsleur is bad, the key is to have many forms of study. Textbooks are theoretical and won’t really have you talking but will provide you with the why

Edit: yeah, it’s $150USD per level but it’s so worth it. Who cares if it’s expensive? The value will take you a long way
