Japanese (RPG) games without furigana..

Could some place list down some Japanese games that they know, especially JRPGs with interactive manually skipping (dialogue) text system as commonly found in most of the Japanese games in Japanese language itself, WITHOUT furigana and normal to good graphics please?
Unlike Undertale, Pokémon, Boku no Natsuyasumi etc, I mean not the 2D, 8 bit and the really old blurry graphics ones!

  1. Definitely check out the Japanese versions of the first 2 Star Ocean games. I think the HD remaster of the first one on switch has Japanese text option, but it definitely has Japanese voice acting which was pretty good. The later ones go 3D and have better graphics, but the first 2 are so good.

  2. Most games don’t have furigana, unless they’re primarily targeted to young children. If you’re not sure, just find a video or some screen shots.

  3. I’ve played over 100 Japanese games over the years now, and majority do not have furigana. For JRPGs I have played, FF series, Tales series, Caligula 1 and 2, Monark, Crystar, Persona series, Nier Automata and Nier replicant, all the Yakuza games, Dragonball kakarot (action rpg), Atelier series, Disgaea series…. there are many games I could list. A good way to know is looking at the age rating, go for CERO C, D or Z to almost guarantee no furigana, some CERO B games don’t have but it depends.

Avoid CERO A and kids games like Pokemon and bokujou monogatari as those tend to almost always have furigana over a lot of the words.

A lot of visual novels and otome games are aimed at teens and adults so those usually do not have furigana either. Worth checking out if you are interested in those types of games.
