4 Days in Osaka

Hello, I have started planning itineraries and schedules for my 4-day trip to Osaka in September and I would like to have your feedback. I am not sure if the sightseeing days are too “light”. Please note that we do not like museums and therefore we mainly do temple visits and walks in the city.

Day 1: Namba & Amerikamura We are staying in Dotonbori and arriving the night before. On this day, I wanted to focus on the city center and therefore go up to the Shinsaibashi station level, and tour Amerikamura, Shinsaibashi-Suji, and Triangle Park. Then, go down to Dotonbori, and visit the Pink kawaii café and the Don Quijote Ferris wheel, cross the river, and head towards Hozenji. Have lunch at the traditional Kuromon Inhiba market, then head down to Dendentown towards Namba Park, and finally Namba Yasaka. It is difficult to project how long all of this will take. Is this enough to fill a day?

Day 2: South Osaka, Shinsekai, and KoreaTown Take early transportation to visit the Sumiyoshi temple. After the visit, go up and down the Shinsekai, visit the neighborhood, eat there according to the time, then go to the Tennoji Park where we visit the Isshin-ji temple and the Keitakuen garden. Go up to Shitennoji and end the day of sightseeing at Abeno Harukas, to watch the sunset at the top. After that, we want to go to dinner at Korea Town.

Day 3: Universal Studio Not much to say about this day, except that in the evening we will go to Tempozan Harbor Village for dinner, and maybe take a ride on the Ferris wheel.

Day 4: Osaka Castle and Umeda Start the day by visiting Osaka Castle, then walk up to Tenjimbashi bridge, stroll along Tenjibashi-Suji, with a stop at Tenmangu. Then turn towards the station, visiting the HEP5 Osaka station, and ending at the Umeda Skybuilding.

We are used to walking and visiting a lot during our travels, and we had originally planned to only do 3 days of sightseeing, but by adding a day, I feel like the days are much lighter. What is your opinion on this?

Bonus: Day 5 The next day we leave early to visit Minoh Park and the Cup Noodle Museum before leaving for Kyoto.

  1. If you need more, Osaka has one of the worlds largest aquariums, which hosts a whale shark

  2. I’m Japanese, and know Osaka quite well. I love your itinerary as it’s not greedy and I can clearly see which area you are focusing on each day. Please let me know if you would like any recommendations food or souvenir shopping wise.

One thing you want to keep in mind is that there are supposed to be some typhoons (hurricanes) in September. Yes, it’s the season. Be flexible on your schedule.

  3. I dont know if they still do this, but I suggest going to USJ at least an hour before they open. Pre covid, if they opened at 9, they’d let you in at 8:30 to queue up for your first ride. Most people have one main ride or place they want to see, and going to that ride first gets you processed quickly. Youll spend less time in USJ overall.
