For everyone that says Japan is so clean. I’ve hiked tons of rural paths full of trash. Here’s old vending machine cans.

1. It’s better to think about populations as averages (and ranges from the average) than in absolutes. Japan has idiots who litter, like every other country.

2. Yeah illegal dumping is a thing, some people even ride their car and go to certain spot to dispose their stuff.

   Though unfortunately the image doesnt show the “full of trash” aspect of it, only few thrown cans.
   Which already a thing even in non rural area. It’s just get cleaned periodically.

3. Roadsides in Japan remind me.of roadsides of the US back in the 80s. Just miles and miles of people throwing trash out their window. Also, the beaches in the countryside are plastered with trash. It’s really only the cities that are clean.
