Looking for someone who could help clarify a JLPT N2 question from the past exam.

First of all, as a reminder that the JLPT test date is coming close I wish you the best of luck to anyone who’ve been studying hard, and hope that we all get a good score on whatever level you’ll be taking.

Right now I’m going through previous tests to help prepare myself for the coming JLPT exam (N2).

Please let me know if this is against the rule on this sub but what I posted above is supposedly a question from the reading section of past exam. I noticed that since these are not released from the official source, it may not be perfectly accurate to the actual test paper. I found one question that they got the answer wrong after some research on the internet.

Regardless, I would like to ask if anyone could help check the question above and let me know what is the correct answer. Reading through it at a first glance I thought it should be 4 but according to the answer sheet it is 3. So I went back and reread it again but can’t help but feel that this’s too tricky. Judging from the line 当日には結果通知の葉書または身分を証明するものは持参してください this should make 4 a correct answer. So I looked for something that could have invalidated this. As in some information that may imply this particular student doesn’t need to bring 結果通知の葉書 on the tour but in the end I am still not convinced this is incorrect. 3 is correct also but if anything I feel like the reading tries to push me to pick 4 instead. The fact that we don’t have much time to answer each question really make me want to get this down before the actual test.

TL;DR I would really appreciate if anyone could help give some explanation for why 4 is not correct. Thank you so much 🙂

  1. The question asks 必ずしなければならないこと.
    Emphasis on 必ず
Since he has the option of bringing either the 葉書 OR 証明証, he doesn’t NEED to bring the 葉書: he could bring just the 証明証.

  2. The language in this question is actually really easy, but it’s totally set up to trick you. You’ve gotta be really focused when taking the test to not fall for stuff like that. I kinda hate it.
