I have seen some examples where kanji in a word or a name can be read with different variation. For example, there are some kanji that have こ reading, but in some words with that kanji, ご variation is used. Let’s set another example. Kanji 技 (art, craft, skill) in On-yomi is read as ギ. Since ギ is a variation of キ, if i want to write a japanese name with that kanji, can i use the other variation of the vowel?

How and when a consonant changes is based on the sound coming before the particular mora in a phenomena called “rendaku.”
Also, which kanji can be used in a name has been legally limited by Japanese courts. I don’t believe 技 is included, although I may be wrong.
