My family has outgrown our apartment, and we’re seeking wider pastures. A couple of people have suggested that Noda, in Chiba, is a place where it’s possible to get what we’re looking for. I’m posting here to see if anyone can give the place a thumbs up or thumbs down before I investigate any further.

Noda is fine, I guess, and it’s true that it’s expanding, but you may find the immediate mobility options a little to the east near Nagareyama to be on the up and up. It’s just made out of growth. That being said, there are some established neighborhoods near Unga which are pretty enough, although that’s almost exclusively a college-town station.
That being said, I’m not the most knowledgeable and the future of Noda. It is after all undergoing a major station renovation, likely for a reason.
In general, seemingly everyone heads out to Chiba or Saitama to spread their legs / have kids / have a dog.
I used to live in Kashiwa. If you need to commute into Tokyo, a house directly along the Tsukuba Express or Joban lines will be more convenient. From Noda, you’d need to switch trains which is a hassle.
Also note that you will probably need a car if you live in Noda.
Uh, you might want to define “what we’re looking for”….
What are you looking for? Do you have a job that requires you to be on a train line or have access to a particular train station on a daily or weekly basis? Does anyone your family? What about kids who are going to a school? What kind of space do you want? Do you want a giant yard so your dog can play outside? Do you want to go mountain biking on Saturdays and Sundays? We have literally zero idea what you’re looking for.
