So i’m personally fine and have sorted everything out for myself, but i’m asking on behalf of the other foreigners i’m working with at the moment.
We’re all on a working holiday visa, and have finished up working at a ski resort.
So we have to sign out of the village obviously – for me this was fine as a)i speak japanese and b)i have an address i’m moving to straight after this.
For the others, they’ve all had various things happen that aren’t as straightforward
He’s travelling for next two months, then staying in Okinawa. On the advice on another foreigner currently living here, they told him to just put the address down and say the move in date is within the next 2 weeks. So that’s what he did.
But another girl, when she went to the office, she was a bit more honest and said she’s travelling for the next month then going to okinawa, so they said they can’t give the certificate yet, and instead gave her the documents that she’ll send back to the village office for when she does moves to okinawa. They told her that if she was to be given the certificate now, she has to register to another city within two weeks or she risks, at the worst case scenario, going to court.
Another guy is planning to travel for a month then leave Japan, but they wouldn’t process his moving out either and thus gave him the documents he’ll need to send them within two weeks of when he’ll leave the country.
A lot of others have similar things like the above, so we just wanna make sure what’s the case with moving out etc especially as they’re on working holiday visas.

Exactly what they told you. You’ll have to send them the form and they will send the moving out certificate to the new ward office.
It’s annoying but there are not that many people on WH visas in Japan so the process is not as streamlined as in other countries.
If your friend filed a moving-out notice, she has to move in somewhere else to enroll into national healthcare and pension. So why not go to where she plans to settle down after traveling for a while and just file a moving in notice?
