Updated Itinerary Check – One Week to Japan!

Hello! We’re a family of **four** first-time traveling to Japan, splitting our time **between Tokyo** and **Kyoto**. We received helpful feedback when we first posted our itinerary and wanted to get one final look on our general, updated plan as we head out. We’ve left out details like reservation times or specific restaurants to keep things simple, but feel free to pass on recs in any area!

We are planning a backup day trip on Day 3 to see sakura in full bloom, based on how we feel about the late blooming sakura once we arrive (if there are any still left). Very much leaning to committing to it!

  1. You seem to be an early bird. You could take an earlier shinkansen to Kyoto and arrive there by 9am. It’ll give you more time to explore Kyoto, plus Nishiki Market is better in the morning too.

  2. For your day 2 – Tokyo metropolitan government building observation deck closes at 5 I believe, so that’s not an option for evening/sunset.

  3. Small note- Kabukicho can become fairly seedy and rowdy at night with prostitutes and touts on the street in certain areas. You mentioned you’re a family so just keep that in mind, it’s not really a place I’d say is for taking your kids to.
