First time omurice

I made omurice for the first time. My biggest difficulty was getting the iconic oval shape right.
Any advice? What other omurice variations should I try next?

  1. The “cut it the omelette open and let the egg spill over the rice” is kind of an insta/yt/tiktok thing. It’s a fun experiment and definitely looks impressive, but it’s not the way that it’s usually made.

Typically it’s made in one of two ways. Make the rice as you normally do, then make a regular omelette. Then you either dump the rice on top and fold the sides on top (and shape it in the pan) OR you put the rice on the plate first, flip the egg-sheet on top and shape on the plate with a spatula (or a paper towel and your hands, if you want the shape to be “perfect”).

  2. Looks great! You could try making it with demiglace instead of ketchup next time. If you want to do the fancier omelette, there are lots of YouTube videos of folks doing it. (Here’s one example: https://youtu.be/eeeTvatu6fk)
