Kyushu itinerary for fall check

Hi everyone! Will be going to Japan on November 12 to 18. This trip will focus mostly on food, sightseeing, shopping and onsens.

Homebase: Fukuoka
JR pass only for Day 3-5

Day 1: Arrival in the evening, check in a hotel in Fukuoka, and eat dinner.

Day 2:
Raizansennyoji Taihioin, TeamLab, stroll around the city and end the day at Canal City, back to hotel

Day 3: Yufuin
Kirin Lake, Yufuin floral village, Yunotsubo Kaido, Check in at an onsen

Day 4: Beppu
Will probably leave Yufuin at 10am. Explore the city of Beppu, Onsens again, hells of beppu, kifune castle, yukemuri observatory, back to fukuoka

Day 5: Nagasaki
Atomic bomb museum, glover garden, the bridge, dejima, chinatown, mount inasa observatory (not in order)

Day 6: Fukuoka
Yusentei Park, Fukuoka castle ruins, explore city, underground mall

Day 7: Fukuoka
Dazaifu in the morning to early afternoon before flight at 8pm

Questions:
1) For Raizan, would I see it in peak for autumn? Not sure whether I should do this in day 6 instead.
2) Do I buy tickets for Yufuin online? Isn’t included in JR pass? How about seat reservation? Where is the best view in the train?
3) I’m quite unsure with my itinerary in Beppu but for sure I will try onsens there and eat a lot. Any recommendations for places to visit? Also, is Hells of beppu even good?
4) My Nagasaki is quite a lot. I’ll probably need to remove some but I mainly want to explore the city. The atomic bomb museum is a must though.
5) can I see autumn leaves in Yusentai park and the castle?
6) For the last day, I’m not sure if it’s too much but I really want to go to Dazaifu because of the food. How many hours should I spent here?
7) Any recommendations for good autumn places? I am willing to switch it with some if it’s worth it.
8) Is the line at the immigration of the airport long? I saw in google that people spend 2 hrs just to line up.
9) is there any lockers in Beppu where I can leave my bags?

Any suggestions would be great.
Thank you!

Is there any lockers here?
I’m not sure where I can purchase the tickets

  1. Regarding the second question – which JR pass will you be purchasing? The All Kyushu Pass and Northern Kyushu pass will cover trains to Yufuin.

There’s a ‘retro’ scenic train called Yufuin No Mori that departs from Hakata station and goes to both Yufuin and Beppu. It’s covered with the aforementioned passes, but you need to reserve seats beforehand at the station. I found it to be a bit over hyped tbh, but it is worth it with the pass.
