How is the current data science field doing in Japan, is it in need of data scientists and data analysts from abroad? Please feel free to share your insights.

Positions related to Data Science\Data Analysis and ML\AI pop up quite often, however most of them require N1-N2 Japanese (obviously due to the need of being able to work with the data in Japanese).

Mostly the companies are looking for those already residing in Japan or having a valid visa at least. Except for maybe a few of the big companies, like Rakuten, Mercari and the like.
Despite Japan having reopened the borders, the companies are still cautious about going back to hiring from overseas, mostly due to the situation around yen and the overall “crisis” of the job market (mass layoffs and all that).
