IME 10 not working, won’t go to Hiragana mode

I’m trying to use IME 10 japanese mode on my work’s computer, but if I click on anything it immediately switches back to the “A” (romaji mode) and I can’t get it to switch to the hiragana mode.

I downloaded another language to try that one out, and I was able to type in arabic immediately. I’m not sure what the issue is but it’s annoying. Anyone know?

  1. I use the google IME on Windows 10

when I click on a box it does whatever it wants and I usually have to alt+~ (tilde) for it to go back go kana, but sometimes it starts off in kana mode, it has its own agenda, and it does what it wants

  2. You have to click into the box first, then change mode.

The logic behind is… fuzzy at best. It seems like IME always first assumes you want to write with latin script.
