Silly question about accessing manga

So I don’t know all that much about anime and manga nowadays; only what’s on Netflix really… My question is, if I wanted to read for example JJK and Chainsaw Man in English or Japanese, what would I need to do? Do I have to buy the manga offline, pay for a subscription online to read all of it? Do I get to use one platform to read in both languages? Are the different mangas on different platforms like Netflix vs Amazon Prime vs HBO kinda deal?

Thank you in advance!

Important edit: legal websites only please and thank you, I’m happy to pay a subscription for a good service.

  1. Mangareader.to – Japanese and English for both of the Manga you asked for. Though, the Japanese for JJK is 2 chapters behind.

If you’re trying to use mokuro through your browser to use yomichan on it, then you might have to buy the volumes digitally. At least I had to do that and then convert them to PDF, not worth the effort.

  2. You can buy the volumes on bookmeter or amazon.jp (for this you need a jp address so sign up for tenso.com and you can get a free one + need a credit card that’s fine with you having a billing address that doesn’t match what’s in their system, also a vpn set to Japan the first few times), bookmeter let’s you just pay without worrying about that afaik.

For physical you can buy from amazon.jp or mandarake

For the latest chapters of chainsaw man: https://shonenjumpplus.com/ for JJK it’s 800 yen per month for weekly shonen jump

  3. I use [pikkoma](https://piccoma.com/) to read manga….but it is fully in Japanese (no English anywhere) as its meant for only the Japanese Audience….meaning….for the website you will need a vpn….but their app does not have that limitation so it can be used without a vpn no problems (but you do have to get it from the japanese region app/play store..a bit of a hassle but only a one time process)…what I like about the service is you only pay for what you consume…im an on and off manga reader kind of guy so paying only for what I consume for me works better although I can see the advantages of just a monthly subscription…anyhow this site does have all the popular mangas as well as less popular content and even have toons and light novels…. Usually the first few chapters of a manga are free and if you are willing to wait you can get a ton of more free chapters per manga for free.

  4. You’re gonna wanna use Mokuro + yomichan, don’t know of a way to download Manga image folders like that in a legal way though. If you wanna do it ‘legally’ you’re best bet is to purchase the manga from somewhere, and then download it separately ‘illegally’ so you can actually use the file in a useful way. If you don’t do this, manga is gonna be so much less efficient, to the point that it’s simply a terrible idea to read manga without yomichan unless you’re already proficient in Japanese…
