New/used electric guitars

I recently just moved into my dormitory near the seijogakuen-mae station and was wondering if anyone here knew of a good place where i can get good quality used/new guitars for a fair price.

Thanks!

  1. This seems like a post about shopping, maybe your question is solved by [the wiki page](https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/wiki/shopping)?

  2. Get yourself to ochanomizu, the big road kind of downhill towards/past Meiji University. Besides along that road, nearer the top, on the side opposite the uni, there are also some shops just off it.

Plan on a good half day, or more, to see it all.

  3. If you have an idea of what brand/model you want, search for it on digimart and if there is one locally, go to the store in the listing and try it out.

Hard Off is also a good place to look. Just make sure you know what things are worth before buying. Sometimes their prices are a bit random.

  4. Personally I strongly recommend Ochanomizu. The line-up of both new and used guitar is definitely one of the top in Japan. The staffs are usually good and can set up a used guitar very well for you.

If you know how to properly set up a guitar, you can try to get new ones online.

I would not recommend hard-off or any other general second-hand stores since from my experience guitars in those places are poorly maintained by staff that sells everything.

You can also try big instruments shops like Shimamura Gakki, they sometimes have used guitars as well. But the price will be a little inflated, the line-up will not be near as good as Ochanomizu, and the staff can be a hit or miss since not all of them knows a lot about guitars.

  5. Hard Off. I’ve struck gold with Jimoty in the past too.
That said, I’d presume your dormitory has some kind of rule about instruments – best to check before buying anything.

  6. What others have said, and:

Be sure to leave some budget for an amp head (without speaker, b/c your neighbours expect you to be super quiet) and good headphones. Alternatively, an audio interface if you have a Mac.
