I was on hello talk asking how to say something and got this as an answer.
「日本語から英語に直訳したものなので、間違っている。」
I’m confused why ものな is in this sentence. I learned to nominalize verbs with の and こと so this is new to me. Why not use one of those and why is 直訳する past tense? Is it wrong to use の or こと? Why or why not?

Because it’s a directly translated thing
You don’t use こと here as that would refer to something abstract. もの refers to something concrete.
直訳 is past tense because you’ve already done that
The sentence means “This is incorrect because it’s something translated literally from English to Japanese”.
You can see that translate is past tense in english as well.
