Mercari/Yahoo auction secondhand bike registration

I’m recently in the market for bikes and found that there are quite some good secondhand bikes available for sale/auction in multiple websites like mercari, yahoo auction, and rakuten.

I was wondering if anyone tried out buying from these sources and how did you go about doing the registration of the bike ?

Thanks in advance!

  1. The owner just has to sign a form saying they relinquish the ownership and you take it to your lox bike shop to get it registered, it’s like 500円.

  2. You need a 譲渡証明書 (joutoshoumeisho) from them as proof that they are handing over the bike to you. That document includes their full name and address.
You can also ask if they have already unregistered the bike. In that case you’ll need that document too. It’s called 防犯登録抹消届出 bouhan touroku masshou todokede.
You then take those two documents and the bike to your local bike shop to register it in your name.

  3. Register your what with who now???

I just moved here and have a family’s worth of bikes being shipped from America right now. Do I need to register these bikes?
