Genki & Pokemon Scarlet / Violet ?

If I complete all the lessons in Genki 1, would I be able to play Pokemon Scarlet + Violet in Japanese with the furigana?

Or would I need to complete Genki 2 too?

Thoughts?

Background: i just want to be able to read to play games in Japanese. i am also using Duolingo to help reinforce how to read hiragana and katakana, and some basics.
And i have been playing the Pokemon games for a while and I find the formula a bit predictable, so I figured it might be interesting to play it in Japanese since I heard that recent Pokemon games, like Arceus and Scarlet / Violet, have furigana.

  1. Genki 1 and 2 would be enough to play the games if youre okay still looking up a ton of words for almost every dialogue box. furigana isnt going to help if you dont know the vocab itself, and even pokemon games made for children have more vocab than genki 1 and 2 teach.

Also since pokemon has a massive amount of made up words (pokemon names, move names, items, etc) you will also struggle to identify which words are made up unless you have the context with them.

this has been asked on reddit before more than a few times, [here’s just one thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/LearnJapanese/comments/w6qycy/what_proficiency_level_is_needed_to_play_pokemon/)
