1. Be an adult, figure it out.

2. Ikea and Nitori. Pretty much all of the furniture in this house comes from those two places. For Appliances it’s Yodobashi Camera, Bic Camera, Yamada Denki or K’s Denki.

4. K’s Denki has pretty good warranties for appliances, and you can negotiate small discounts like 10%.

   House Off, Book Off, Second Street can be great used goods. Especially if you need clothing you won’t use much, or don’t care much about like sports clothes. If you have access to a car, lots of great furniture for cheap.

   Gyoumu super is a great ‘restaurant’ supply store. Cheap prices, lots of foreign foods.

   Shimamura is a cheap-ass clothing store, but sometimes their clothes are a good idea for like cheaper thermals, sports clothes, and cheap basic clothes. Better made than GU, cheaper than Uniqlo.

5. Depends on what you like but

   * Nitori and Cainz for furniture, kitchen tools, decor and household goods
   * Yodobashi Camera for appliances and anything electric as well as household goods and nonperishable food
   * any regular drugstore for beauty and hair things (also Cainz and Yodobashi)
   * Uniqlo, GU and Shimamura are good enough for me when it comes to fashion

6. All of my clothes come from Fashion Center Shimamura.

7. Internet, physical stores are my last resource

9. Daiso, Can Do, Seriya or DonKi for cheap random house stuff you didn’t know you need.

10. Kaldi for decent variety of reasonably priced foreign foods, though I suspect if you really know where to look you could get things cheaper individually (ex: curry spices from an Indian part of town).

11. Welcome to Fukuoka! You will love it here! Lots of good deals at Costco & Ikea! The malls are great, and there are lots of local second hand shops if you’re on a budget!

12. When it comes to stocking your apartment with basic stuff, a my recommended algorithm is:

    1. First, get your big furniture items (bed, couch, etc.) at Ikea. Much better cost performance than Nitori, and I’m way too poor to go boutique.
    2. Then go to the biggest Daiso you can find and get as much of the little daily stuff as you can there. Quality is hit-or-miss, but you can do better than you might think at the really big Daisos.
    3. Finally, go to Nitori for the small stuff like towels, kitchen gear, etc. Lower cost and same or better quality than Ikea, and better quality to cover stuff you just don’t want the Daiso version of.
