Hello, I’ve been planning and researching for some months about applying to MEXT’s Specialized Training College, to study illustration. My goal is to someday work in game companies in creating worlds, characters and stories.
Giving a bit of my background, I’m Brazilian, 22, going to complete 23 this year. I’m basically a month from completing my under graduation in Graphic Design. I’m still a beginner in Japanese, but have been learning for some time, and currently am a part of a nikkei community in my state learning Japanese.
I understand how easy it is to think of Japan as a wonderland when all of your hobbies come from this country, basically. So I have researched a lot from MEXT students and their daily lives in Japan (during and after graduation), I guess I’m at a point where I feel I can try to go towards this dream while understanding all the hardships that will come with it.
Recently, however, I’ve been rethinking about my plans a lot, and even after researching about game artists specifically in Japan, I feel that going through a Specialized Training College with MEXT and trying to enter an industry as big as game production being a foreigner is a bit specific and complex of a dream. Does any illustrators have any advice? Sorry for venting, I guess I’m feeling a bit lost. Thanks for reading and in advance for answering!
