International banks in Japan?

Hello! I’m an EFL Teacher and recently got hired by a language school in Japan, so I’m moving there in June. Since I can’t open a Japanese bank account unless I’m there, I was thinking of using an international credit card to pay for things in the first month of work. What are some good international banks in Japan? Banks that provide deposit services, for example. Thanks, guys!

You can open one as soon as you get here.

Your current credit card works fine.

    >What are some good international banks in Japan?

What exactly do you mean by “international banks”? Banks by default only serves Japanese residents unless you first open an account here and then register as a foreign resident with proof of your move in most cases.

  3. By “international credit card” do you mean a credit card from abroad that works in Japan? Or a credit card from Japan that also works abroad?

  4. >Banks that provide deposit services, for example.

This is not really a thing at the consumer level in almost any country, much less in Japan.

Sure, there might be a “Citibank” in a given country, but that doesn’t mean that you as a regular customer will be able to access your accounts back home.

Free access to your account from anywhere in the world is the sort of thing you need to be at Private Banking levels of wealth to be able to do.

  5. Yes you can use a card, but please bring a lot of cash. There are many places that are cash only. And some places don’t accept foreign cards (certain atms, certain websites) so it’s good to have that also.
