I got a 1 to 1 Skype interview with Borderlink in a few weeks. Any advice on passing on the interview? What kind of questions should I ask? How to prepare for the conversation? Please and thank you.
Just have a pulse and act outgoing. Easy to get the job. So easy that I did the interview stoned out of my tree. Pay is shit of course so I turned it down.
Be outgoing and show interest in the position. I went with borderlink partly because they reached out to me first.
They asked me to introduce an American song to elementary schoolers and also to introduce myself to a group of middle schoolers during the secondary interview.
But yeah I got the job and I should be moving out in mid October.
I know it’s not the greatest Alt company but it’s the one that gets me to Japan the soonest. But either way my communication with them and upfrontness have been great, although it might just because I’m used to working in dysfunctional kitchens so anything is a step up from that.
My only tips are…
– Be yourself and don’t prepare answers to possible questions. Just be honest.
– Think about why you wanna go to Japan and why you wanna do a teaching gig.
– Focus on sounding positive and keen to learn stuff.
– Think about the development you’ll get outta this. They’re entry-level jobs so don’t stress about coming in with no skills. Be a sponge!
Smile.

Check your background. Put as much effort into that as you do your hair, clothes and what you say. These positions care a lot about optics, and being a guy they can trust not to bring anime figures to school could get you a better placement.

Yo so I’d say common questions to be prepared for are
– Why do you want to work/live in Japan?
-Can you speak Japanese? If you have some ability they will ask you to do an introduction or may ask you questions in Japanese.
Knowing Japanese not a requirement but can be a bonus and helps a lot since most people at the schools don’t speak English.
– Do you have teaching experience?
But yeah I wouldn’t worry too much about the interview itself. As long as you can talk about your interests, strengths or weaknesses and perhaps career goals. Also showing interest in teaching even if its not your thing. I know its not my thing 😳 but I been out here almost 5years teaching as an ALT mostly.
Feel free to ask me whatever. And even DM which I think is a thing on Reddit now 🤔. But yeah otherwise good luck !
Is this for the April intake?
When they ask, “will you leave this job prior to the end of your contract for a higher paying position?” You say, “no”

Turns out they don’t reward honesty… haha.
Have a pulse.
