Travel in Tokyo by electric bike?

I have 10 days in Tokyo and I want to spend the morning until the late evening roaming through the city, seeing places with an electric bike. Already found a company.

Are there any big objections to this idea? I haven’t seen people try this approach much but as a person from the Netherlands, roaming through the city, especially with a sped-up bicycle seems perfectly doable.

Thoughts?

Also this is the list of places I want to go to (at least), please let me know if you have suggestions on that end.

Ramen- mutekiya
Tokyo view- metropolitan building observatory
Arcades & anime- akihabara and nakano broadway
Shrines- Asakusa and Meiji jingu
Museums- teamlab planets
Other ‘must see’- meguro gawa, sky tree, shinjuku(gyoen)/kabukicho, golden gai, takeshita street
Hanami- naka-meguro, ueno park, inokashira park
Tsukiji fish market
Other areas: harajuku, shibuya,

  1. It’s alright if you’re talking about those share cycles with many locations to put them back. The biggest issue when riding a bike in any large city is the space to park your bike.

  2. If the company doesn’t offer bicycle insurance.. I wouldn’t do it. Super easy to get in an accident with a pedestrian.. and more than likely you will be at fault no matter what the pedestrian did.

  3. Doubtful. Here in Yokohama city-sponsored e-bikes are everywhere. I hardly use my car and instead use my ebike just about everywhere these days.

  4. Possible, but parking the bike can be a challenge as you can only park is designated places, some are even paid parking. There is places where you should park then walk to visit like Senso-ji and Takeshita street.
