Bad pic, but I tried Uni for the first time. Surprisingly it was not for me. I was expecting to love it but it’s super strong and a really bad taste to me. Maybe I had bad quality? Not sure since the restaurant I went is one of the highest quality sushi places around.

  1. That doesn’t look like a high quality sushi restaurant. The presentation looks awful and the uni doesn’t look good.

    What place was this?

  2. I almost threw up the first time I tried it. Same for ikura lol. Now I love them both. It’s supposed to taste like the ocean, literally. I’ve had live ones where they crack them open literally seaside and they’re supposed to have an oceany taste and slimy texture. I can’t speak for the freshness of the one you got but they “look” ok, bad ones usually look more dark/discolored and dry. It’s not for everyone, definitely an acquired taste but I commend you for trying it!

  3. Uni is unique in taste just like Japan Natto either you like it or you don’t,Please don’t sweat it so many more amazing sushi u can substitute for uni 🤙🤙🤙

  4. I feel like uni is a hate it or love it kinda thing. Not necessarily something to be surprised by.

With that said, there can be some preservative or additive used that can give it an off, bitter taste. And honestly what you’ve got there doesn’t look great; fresh uni has a visible texture whereas as it gets old (only takes like 2 days) it starts to look “melted.”

But hey, good to give new things a shot 🙂

  5. Sesame on salmon nigiri 😵‍💫😂 – you are not in quality town my brother
