Itinerary Check – 7 Days Osaka/Kyoto/Nara/Okayama

Hello me and my friend are going to Japan for the first time this May. We are going for a full 19 days but I would like some input how how these days look.

Day 0 – Osaka

Day 1 – Nara

* Kokufu-ji Temple
* Nara Deer Park
* Todai-ji Temple
* Isuien and Yoshikien Gardens
* Mount wakakusayama

Day 2 – Okayama

* Okayama Castle
* Okayama gardens
* BLEACH 20th Anniversary Exhibition BLEACH EX.

Train back to Osaka

* Shinsaibashisuji
* Amerikamura
* Teamlab planets Osaka
* Dontonbori

Day 3 – Osaka

* Osaka Castle
* Nishinomaru Garden
* Osaka Museum of History
* Explore Kita (Umeda)
* Umeda Sky Building
* Kitashinchi district

Day 4 – Osaka

* MINOH PARK
* Ryuan-ji Temple
* Abeno Harukas
* Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan
* Explore Shinsekai

Day 5 – Kyoto

* Kinkaku-ji
* Nijo Castle
* Gion district
* Philosophers Path
* Hanami-koji street

Day 6 – Kyoto

  1. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and don’t hesitate to take a half day off or split up to do different things if you get tired. I live in Japan and usually walk more than 10,000 steps every day just to get around but I don’t want to go through your travel plan for more than a few days straight….

  2. Day 2. I highly recommend scrapping the Osaka half on this day and go to Kurashiki instead.

    Nara is doable half day and I often recommend it to be paired with Fushimi Inari as it uses the same train line so maybe on Day 1 you can instead explore Osaka (Osaka castle, etc). Fushimi is also open until night so you can see the red torii gates lit up.

    Day 5. Kinkakuji should be moved to Arashiyama day. Check the map and bus route.
