  1. Japanese YouTubers or search up hiragana and katakana. If your high school offers Japanese language classes, put them down as your electives. If you really want to try living there, sign up for a study abroad over the summer or a try a Japanese language school for a semester.

  2. Here’s a starting from zero guide (I don’t agree with everything here, but you can change your methods up once you have a foundation. The most important thing is to get started somewhere)

While following that guide, I recommend spending at least half of your time Reading and watching things are so easy to understand, things that the context makes it clear what’s happening, and you can start from day zero. This is called “comprehensible input.” Start with this playlist:

And you can expand from that channel using this list once you’ve exhausted that channel:

Once you know hiragana you can start reading too!

  3. First off. Don’t have the goal of moving to Japan. It’s much too early. Set a more modest goal of traveling to Japan, for a vacation, temporarily. Learnt things like hiragana and katakana mastery, and learn how to get around and do touristy things. Then go. After that see if you want to move. The exposure of traveling there would of course be great practice. This is like having the goal of living in the water without ever swimming before.

  4. Does your high school offer Japanese?

For learning Japanese with a nonexistent budget, I would watch the “Japanese From Zero” videos on Youtube. I would also download Anki. Wanikani and the Bunpro free trials are also good. There is also Tae Kim as well.
