Japan 15 day trip – April, looking for last minute recommendations!

We leave for Japan from Canada this Friday! It is our first time in Japan. We like vegetarian/vegan food, unique/interesting art and museums, and nature and bird watching.

Here is our draft itinerary:

Tokyo
– 8 April: arrive in PM, visit Metropolitan Government Buildings for view
– 9 April: meeting with a local friend (AM), Shinjuku PM
– 10 April: Shibuya day, Tokyo tower (evening)

Karuizawa
– 11 April: visit Ginza street, Kumoba Pond, New Art Museum, Usui Pass Observation Platform
– 12 April: Nature tours booked, Harunire Terrace, Kogen and Stone churches

Nakano
– 13 April: visit Obuse, okusai-kan museum, miso brewery, chestnut restaurant, onsen
– 14 April: snow monkey park, 9 hot springs tour

Kyoto
– 15 April: AM travel day, PM Philosophers path
– 16 April: Open day, thinking of visiting temples and gardens
– 17 April: nishiki market, Geisha show, temples and shrines
– 18 April: Iwatayama monkey park, arashiyama area

Hakone
– 19 April: open air museum
– 20 April: Nature/birding day, view of Mt Fuji, Lake Ashinoko

Tokyo
– 21 April: Tsukiji Outer market, TeamLabs, birding
– 22 April: imperial palace walking tour

Any cool things to check out in any of these places? Recommended veg restaurants? Open to any suggestions 🙂

  1. Kyoto – go to Fire Ramen for an evening meal.

    If you are hitting the mountain with the tori gates, go early if you don’t want someone in all your photos.

    Visit a big Don Quijote store – they are wild.

  2. If you want vegetarian/vegan ramen then visit Engine Ramen in Kyoto, it was incredible!
