I am considering canceling my current plan and getting rakuten hikari since it is cheap, but does the internet suck? I just want it to be good enough for my Netflix and online gaming.
I read on some of the other posts here that I must get IPv6 in order to get the best service. How would one exactly do that? Rakuten site only says to get a router that supports IPv6, but is there anything manually I have to do? TIA!

Rakuten ipv4over6 is using the クãƒã‚¹ãƒ‘ス service offered by arteria networks. As long as you have a router supporting that, you should be good to go. The good news is that if you ARE using this method of getting ipv4 internet, is that who your provider is doesn’t really matter as you’re avoiding the congestion/slowness problem created by pppoe connections.
So yeah, check the wiki https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/wiki/internet for a list of domestic routers that support this stuff, grab one in the price range you can afford, and enjoy cheap/fast internet.
When setting up the new connection, do not use PPPoE credentials from rakuten, but simply enable クãƒã‚¹ãƒ‘ス support (its called differently in each router so..).
Yes as long as you set up everything correctly, no issues whatsoever with Rakuten hikari. I’m on it and on average get speeds between 650-850mbps on tests
