Learning to speak more colloquially

I’m trying to find resources that teach more colloquial phrases rather than direct textbook translations.

An example of this might be 「携帯知らない?」instead of 「携帯がどこにあるか知ってる?」in order to say “Have you seen my phone?”

I understand expressions are usually acquired naturally, but I’m looking for a resource that exposes me to them more often, in order to sound more native-like.

  1. Most things that have dialogue will be good candidates as long as it’s grounded in a modern casual setting.

This includes anime. Again, keep it grounded. Y’know, where they’re more likely to say 「携帯知らない?」 rather than 「おい貴様!良くもこの俺様の携帯電話を隠しやがったな?」. There are also dramas and films, variety TV, or even let’s players and VTubers if you want. Basically anything you like. Really, it’s more challenging to find stuff for natural keigo, depending on your tastes in media.

  2. Personally I like this series called: シャドーイング 日本語を話そう!

If you search on Amazon it comes right up. I’ve only used the advanced one but the beginner one should be helpful too, I learned lots of daily conversational phrases that I didn’t learn in my textbook

  3. Get input
Stuff made originally for Japanese people
Games, movies, anime, books what have you
