A lot of financial companies are asking for a MyNumber card these days. It’s an easy way for them to verify your ID. They usually offer alternatives, though, like a drivers license.
Given that currently you aren’t legally required to have the physical card, I can’t imagine that that’s the case. In the future, maybe? With the recent government push to get one.
If you only need to provide the number itself, you can get it other ways without needing to have the physical card, but I would imagine any form of valid photo ID would be accepted
