Do you know any reliable translation services?

Hello there!

I am an expat based in Saitama. I would like to ask if you know any business service or Japanese people who are willing to provide translator service.

I have to go to my city hall and process a document. Since I expect that it would be quite complicated, Google translate won’t suffice. My Japanese skill is very basic. I think I need a Japanese translator who can come with me at the city hall. And also, since I might leave Japan in the near future, I might need this kind of service.

Thank you in advance.

  1. First please check if there is an International Association in your area, who may be able to give you more localized options. Or if your City Hall has any international relations division who can maybe assist you.

Secondly please confirm, do you need a translator for a written document, or an interpreter to physically be there helping you speak to the staff? These are separate services and the price for them is very different (if you’re going to pay a company to do it).

  2. City halls often provide these services. There are also groups who volunteer and might charge a small fee for travel expenses. Not sure about Saitama specifically
