Living right next to a cemetery?

I’m about to head to Japan and found the perfect apartment that I have been recently approved for. It’s a brand new building in central Tokyo and close to my school’s campus. The only thing is the window (there is no balcony) opens up directly to a shrine cemetery. I’m on an upper floor but it is definitely the majority of the view. Initially I feel it’s okay, but is this a taboo thing or a red flag I’m missing? Thanks in advance!

  1. You now have the benefit of knowing that whatever your view is, you’ll never have to worry about an apartment complex being built across the street to obscure it. Seems like a win to me.

  2. Do you believe in ghosts or something?

It’s just some upright stones in the ground dude. Who cares.

  3. Do you believe in spiritual beings, have seen one, and/or have chased by one?

    No? No big deal.

    Yes? Might be a problem.

  4. Poor Feng Shui but only if you believe in it (in this day and age the price and convenience is way more important)

  5. The neighbours are quiet, at least.

I figure that if there’s some societal taboo that I don’t really care about, it makes for a good deal, rent-wise.

  6. Why is this a bad thing? Quiet. No one to look inside your window. Probably has trees and shit, which is always nicer to look at than another building.

  7. I’d be more concerned about not having a balcony. Where are you going to hang your laundry to dry?

  8. Everyone is cremated… no zombies.

In all seriousness as long as you feel OK about it doesn’t matter you have to live somewhere it’s unlikely you’re going to have a lot of people over to your house anyway.

  9. For some people it’s indeed quite a red flag, so you may attempt to use it to negotiate a small rebate (“hey I like the place, but I don’t like ghosts”)

  10. You’ll get ghosts during the summer.

The best way to get rid of ghosts is to just leave your vacuum cleaner on all night. But if you want to save the electricity you can just download a anti-poltergeist program into a blank USB and leave it on your windowsill, do not plut it back into the computer afterwards though, you don’t want a ghost in your hard drive.

You can also buy ghost repellent at Komeri but it doesn’t work so great unless you are a devout Buddhist, Christian ghost repellent can’t be found so easily unless you live in aAomori where Christ’s grave attracks high numbers of christian ghosts.

  11. I lived next to a cemetery for several years. Quietest most respectful neighbors I ever had.
