CIR interview Japanese portion

1. For me it started with basic questions like “What did you do today before coming to the interview?” then reading a short passage and answering some questions about your personal opinion on the passage. There was one kanji I double checked the reading with the interviewers, but other than that my reading was ok. My speaking was a little rougher and there was one where I paused 30 seconds to try and remember a word, (which was “point of view/perspective” btw – you can use 目線 or 立場). I gave up and used a simpler, more unnatural phrase to express myself for that question.

   Still passed though!

2. Is this an American thing? In the UK the CIR interview was almost entirely in Japanese followed by a short English section

3. Current CIR from the US.

   The Japanese portion of my interview included a short self-intro, reading a short news article (N3-N2 level) out loud, and answering a few questions about the article. There were a couple more interview-type questions in Japanese. I would say half of my interview was in English and half in Japanese. Feel free to DM me if you want more details.

   My only advice – if you forget the reading of a kanji – just go on and carry on until the end. Concentrate on the questions and be ready to state your own opinion about it.

   It is a staple to do a self-intro so prepare to do one.
