Building a house with traditional design?

Hi all,

I keep exploring the house building space. I feel I have by now a reasonable grasp on the regular offerings by the big builders, e.g. Sekisui / Ichijo. But I’d also like to understand better choices if I wanted to go for more traditional design. Stumbled for example by 菊池建設, which certainly looks nice, but I’m not sure how to evaluate their offering / what are the competitors… if someone can advise a more systematic way to approach this than random Internet searches, it’d be very helpful.

Thank you!

  1. I’m not sure if theres a more “systematic” approach but outside of the internet there are also lots of magazines that feature traditional construction which lists the companies involved.

I believe traditionally, people matched with local builders via word of mouth. I also wonder if there are local associations for traditional builders you can reach out to and ask for guidance since they tend to be a more local-based thing.

Not a specialist in the particular field but a few thoughts.

  2. I know an architect in Osaka who specializes in traditional Japanese buildings with modern materials. DM me if you are interested.
