I’m working through “mastering” or whatever its called some of the older Duolingo units. The current one I’m working on has a lot of expressing there being a number or an object.
The first one was for chairs “there are 5 chairs” I answered “椅子五つがあります” which was deemed correct.
A couple questions later I got “there are 5 eggs” and I answered the same “卵五個がります” which was deemed wrong and corrected to “卵がご個あります”
This also happened with apples but for some reason they had “wo” breaking the counter rather than “ga”.
Could someone please explain why this happens?
P.S I understand Duo isn’t a great learning app for Japanese and I have Bern supplementing it with Wani Kani ( cant spare the money for premium), some YouTube, writing practise etc I’d also like to start language practise with English learners once I’m at a point where conversation is past expressing the time, asking directions, and talking about my family lol

Duolingo is wrong on two of these. Only 卵がご個あります is correct (and it’s spelled a little strangely).
You can use the number adverbially (a little more common), as 椅子が五つあります, or as a noun modifier, as in 五つの椅子があります, but it can’t form a strange compound noun with 椅子五つがあります.
Giving it the benefit of the doubt, was the verb 持つ rather than ある for the apples? リンゴを五つあります is just wrong, but リンゴを五つ持っています is fine.
