Hi there! So I’ll be going to Kanazawa University for a few months in June and was wondering if I could get some information about the place since I basically know nothing and this is the first time I’m going to another country.
– What is the average monthly food expense and how do you usually get your food?
– I thought I can take a flight to either Kyoto or Nagoya and then take a train, which is better?
– How far is the university from the city, did you face any problems?
– What other general things should I keep in mind?
Thanks a lot!

If you’re talking domestic flights, arrive in either Komatsu or Toyama.
For international flights arrive in Tokyo and take the hokuriku Shinkansen.
I’m not from Kanazawa. A friend of mine studied at the uni and I’ll give you some information.
Food expense: It depends on how much you eat.
If you have lunch at a university cafeteria and cook dinner by yourself everyday, it’ll cost about 30000 JPY(230 USD).
The nearest international airports from Kanazawa city are Chubu Centrair International Airport(Nagoya) or Kansai International Airport(Osaka). You can take a rapid train from those cities.
It’s also convenient to fly to Haneda Airport(Tokyo) and take a bullet train(Shinkansen) to Kanazawa.
There’s an airport in Ishikawa prefecture(where Kanazawa city is located)as well. The airport(Komatsu airport) is a bit far from Kanazawa university, so I’d recommend you to take a train from Tokyo, Osaka, or Nagoya to Kanazawa.
The uni is quite far from JR Kanazawa station and the city centre. It takes about 40 min by bus.
