Is there a japanese keyboard like that?

As some of you may know, most chinese keyboards (both pc and phone) have this function that you only need to type first letters of pinyin to get word suggestion.

For example: bkm -> bao ke meng (宝可梦)jksh -> jiao ke shu (教科书)

But if you type nhg (日本語)on japanese keyboard youll get nothing.

What im trying to say is i dont see the reason why it wouldnt work in case of japanese and it really saves a lot of time.

Is there any japanese keyboard/method to get this function?

  1. If I type にほ (two flicks on the mobile flick keyboard) I get the suggestion to complete the word such as 日本語 or 日本人
Usually if it’s a longer word and I type the first two or three kana the whole word usually comes up as a suggestion.

  2. Not really.

There’s too many possible options (due to the nature of Japanese) to tell just by the first consonant, and if you were to type out all the consonants, you might as well make it clearer by writing the full kana.

Not to mention, as far as Japanese is concerned, you don’t really think about consonants and vowels, but as kana being the base unit. Getting rid of *just* the vowels would be really counterintuitive.

  3. Well first… you have to kind of realize that these are two completely different languages…. so they’re not going to utilize the same shortcut functions.

Typing “IDK” into my phone keyboard doesn’t give me “I don’t know” as a suggestion for instance.

But otherwise… I mean, kind of… it depends on the keyboard.

Here on my desktop computer I have to type full words out. On both my phone and desktop I use a romaji keyboard so I type “nihonngo” (yes double n’s) to get 日本語

On my phone, since it’s a word I use so often, I can actually just type “ni” に and get 日本語 as a suggestion.

I generally type out “nihonn” にほん and tap 日本語 when it pops up as a word suggestion.

So essentially, on my phone I don’t type full words out, I’ll type out the first couple of kana and click the correct kanji suggestion when it pops up.

Tap and flick phone keyboards can be the faster option if that’s too much, but I found that those cramped my fingers??? Yeah IDK.

But yeah, two completely different languages my friend, they’re not going to have the same shortcuts.
