Hello, my husband and I are going to Japan in April for 11 days!! I’m looking for feedback on our trip in terms of any other points of interest near where our plans are? Recommended restaurants? We love ramen and curry (husband doesn’t eat seafood though). We both love video games but aren’t super into anime (some soft spots for gundam), and I’m really looking forward to shopping for instant noodles, chopsticks, souvenirs, snacks, etc! We’re both in our early 30s and are set to go with comfortable shoes.
Day 1
Arrive at Haneda around 3pm local time
* Already complete the Visit Japan paperwork/obtained QR code
* pickup pocket wifi
* we’ll both have suica on our iphones
* Take local train to hotel in Shinjuku (Hotel Sunroute Plaza)
* Get dinner nearby
Day 2
Shinjuku/Shibuya
* Shinjuku Goen
* Meiji Jingu
* Hachiko statue
* Shibuya scramble/starbucks
* Nintendo store
* Shibuya shopping
Day 3
* Teamlab Planets
* Gundam statue/Odaiba
* Pokemon Cafe
Day 4
* Asakusa
* Senso-ji
* Kaminarimon Gate
* Nakamise Dori
* Tokyo Skytree
* Tokyo station Ramen Street (dinner)
Day 5
Kawaguchiko Ryokan
* Take the highway bus from Shinjuku Station to Kawaguchiko
* Mt Fuji Ropeway if there’s enough time before check in (3:00pm)
* Chill out at the Ryokan! (Konansou)
Day 6
Travel from Kawaguchiko to Kyoto
(I know this will be a lot, but felt better to get all the travel out of the way in one day than another hotel check in/out in Tokyo)
* Take the bus from Kawaguchiko back to Shinjuku (the Fuji express does not run back from Kawaguchiko to Tokyo in the morning)
* Take local train from Shinjuku to Shinagawa Station (pick up/active JR passes)
* Take Shinkansen to Kyoto Station
* Check in at hotel, Daiwa Roynet Grande Kyoto
* Eat dinner nearby/explore locally
Day 7
* Arashiyama Bamboo
* Tenryu-Ji
* Okochi Sanso
* Kinkaku-ji
* Tea ceremony experience near Kinkaku-ji
* Gion for dinner
Day 8
Day trip to Osaka
* Osaka Aquarium
* Dotonbori
* Osaka Castle
Day 9
Very ambitious – Shinkansen to Hiroshima from 9-12 (just Atomic Bomb Dome and museum), then Himeji Castle for the afternoon, then back to Kyoto – insane or doable?
Day 10
* Fushimi Inari Taisha
* Nara Deer park
* Todai-ji
* Shopping back in Kyoto
