looking for an Enlish speaking neurologist in Tokyo/Yokohama area

my wife is suffering from severe back pain for a while. After numerous testing and ruling out other issues (orthopedic checkup and auto immune checkup), the rheumatologist referred us to check up with a neurologist. That doctor straight up refused to diagnose her. Can anyone refer me any English speaking neurologist(not a orthopedist) where we can go?

  1. You may also want to try asking in /r/Tokyo.

  2. They need to write her a referral letter to a university hospital. Saint Luke’s may also be a possibility but I’m not familiar with their neurology department. Most of the doctors will speak English in either case. The doctor you’ve been seeing should know how to make a referral if that is what he’s recommending. (However, an orthopedist would be more appropriate here if the problem is with her spine.)

  3. There’s a hospital in Kodaira (West Tokyo) that specialises in neurology. My doctor speaks English, but not perfectly. He’s only available on certain days so if they are able to see you, you may need to wait for a particular date. The majority of staff there don’t speak English but it may be worth trying.

    Good luck!

  4. Hi, which hospital did you go to for the orthopedic checkup? I say this because I’m thinking of approaching either of these hospitals myself for constant dizziness and tightness around my neck and shoulders and did a lot of research, but apparently for back (and neck) pain, Inanami Spine and Joint Hospital in Shinagawa and Sangubashi Spine Surgery Hospital in Yoyogi are very well known. I might consider getting a second opinion before going to a neurologist. (I personally have already been to a neurologist for my issues… and they said nothing was wrong with me!)
