Disposal Services?

So, what are some good disposal services you’ve heard of or used here?

I’m looking to get rid of everything in my home and garbage. (I have no time to wait and sell)

  1. you can order those oversized garbage (粗大ゴミ) stickers, stick them onto the things you want to get rid of and leave them near the garbage pickup area.

  2. everything will be at the local level, so without knowing where you live I can’t tell you any specific companies.

If you want to try searching for local places yourself, you can google keywords like 粗大ゴミ (sodai gomi, big/oversized items) and 引き取り (hikitori) or 回収 (kaishu) to find places near you that will do pick up/what the prices will be

  3. If you can’t get the stuff outside yourself to use 粗大ゴミ you’ll have to call any recycling shop to come get it. My partner just did this when he didn’t make a 粗大ゴミ reservation fast enough for the day he needed and didn’t have time. For a washer, a microwave, single pipe bed, a small desk, a small table, and a small tension shelf it was 60,000 yen. I had someone come pick up my old refrigerator and it was 11,000. So be prepared to pay a lot. They are much more picky about what they will buy now than they were before COVID. Basically anything that is not less than a year old will cost money to get rid of.

I threw away a large platform bed frame, a two person sofa, a tension shelf, two trash bins, two futons, and a few other things for 7,400 using 粗大ゴミ so if you care about the money find a way to put the stuff outside yourself or cheaply hire someone to help you.

  4. This is going to depend entirely on your location. My city has several, one advertises on the city garbage bags. Some stuff you will have to pay a decent fee to dispose of, you might get lucky and find a recycle company that will pay for some of your stuff but probably not if you are in a hurry.

  5. I found a company that offer a service where they will pick up as much as can fit in a truck (various sizes available) for a set amount. They’ll take anything except computers. I just found them by googling my town and ゴミ収集. It’s expensive but so convenient.

  6. Some people at FB Sayonara Sales are usually quick to pickup stuff especially if its working and free.

Also in the three places that I have lived there usually is a guy that roam around in a small truck that will take electronics. I don’t know if those are private or from the government but I usually hear them pass by when I was still WFH.

  7. The companies that clean apartments when someone moves in or out will help you. Tell them to clean it like you are moving out, and to throw everything away. They will charge you, but the fees are not unreasonable in my opinion.

  8. If you have anything that might be valuable to someone, try listing it on ジモティー. If it’s free, you could literally have someone picking it up within the hour.

Not sure what it’d be like if you try to sell stuff off, but a lot better than the 5万 to 10万 you might be paying to a proper “recycling” company

  9. If you can transport it yourself see if your city has a “clean center”. Finding this was the best thing I’ve done concerning garbage. My local one has good rates on everything, including drywall and tatami and stuff like that. A city run clean center will almost certainly be WAAAY cheaper than a private dump.

  10. In my experience, stuff that you post in craigslist for free can be gone in ~3 days.

I myself am looking for a fridge now.

  11. if you need it fast, it will be expensive. a coworker paid about 5man for fridge, washing machine, tv, monitor, gaming chair, and some other little bits and bobs.
    they used a commercial service
