Japan Post removed Tracking History?

So I have a package that was coming from the Netherlands to Japan, everything was going fine until it hit the Kawasakihigashi office in Kanagawa and was handed off to customs.

I checked my tracking number on the Japan Post site and saw that it hit customs at 4:30PM yesterday, and checked it this morning to see that it was removed from the tracking history completely.

I checked on PostNL (the Dutch postal service) to double check that I’m not mistaken. The tracking history of going to customs at 4:30PM is still there.

I called Japan Post and was told they don’t really know what is going on. Has this happened to anyone else?

UPDATE: Still not sure why the customs part was taken out of the Japan Post history, but it now says “Dispatch to Overland transport” so I guess all is well?

  1. I’ve had lots of (domestic) packages fail to appear in the Japan Post tracking system. So far, they have all arrived intact and on time. But it is a bit unnerving.

  2. Yup I’ve seen it happen in the US and Japan. It makes no sense but generally it makes it to the destination. On a related note they seem to open 75% of the package I send, they’re really serious about inspecting benign candies and t-shirts.

  3. Yes, it happens to me with every delivery. It gets out of Kanagawa, then it’s in limbo for a few months and all of a sudden just when I forgot about the delivery I get a message on my phone that I have a package that reached customs.

It was even worse when the Suez canal was blocked, got the package after half a year!

  5. Kanagawa is where things tend to ship from, for some reason Japan Post doesn’t seem to have a ‘it’s been put on a ship’ so after about a week of Kanagawa it’s been put on a ship and is on its way across the ocean somewhere, until it arrives JP post doesn’t update the tracking at all, once it hits the port of the destination country, it’ll update then.

Not seen the remove it, but I’ve sent many items that’ve just said Kanagawa for around 2 months.
