Leaving Japan. Till which month do I need to pay pension?

Hi,

Using a throwaway account.

**tl;dr If I leave Japan (PR with intention to return) this month do I need to pay pension for next month and beyond?**

**Details**

I am moving back to Canada temporarily and I have PR. I plan to eventually return back in 1-2 years.

I left my job few months ago to travel and thus, I have been paying pension by myself.

I plan to leave this month or next and today I received a notice regarding Pension. Basically, they are slips I can use to pay at combini.

The slips are till April next year.

I think I should pay till this month (or next if I leave in May) and there is no need for me to pay for June, July and beyond.

Can anyone confirm?

Thank you

  1. You gotta go to city hall / ward office and stop by the pension window and tell them that. You can do it the same day you submit your moving out notice (don’t forget health insurance stuff too)

  2. Pension is billed the final day of the calendar month.

So if you leave before April 30th 2023 then you don’t need to pay pension for April 2023
