Hi there,
I’ve been researching regarding the visa process and I am currently confused and would like any advice, tips or additional resources possible.
Regarding my situation, I am living in Australia as a citizen, and my partner and I would like to live in Japan for a year or two. I’ve noticed that there’s not really an option for me to run my own business online and live in Japan.
I know I’ll most likely need to have a working visa in Japan, but I’m wondering if anyone has had any experience working as a graphic designer or artist in Japan, whether online or for a company. I have a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design and up to a lower intermediate level of conversational Japanese. I know there’s a site dedicated to IT jobs in Japan that do not have the overworking culture, but I haven’t found any sites like these for my own field. Does anyone have any sites like this?
I was looking into one of the newer visa options for graduates to live in Japan to find work but my university is not in the rankings required to have that option, so any valid options please let me know.
I want to make sure that I do things the right way, and embrace the Japanese culture. Thank you in advance.

If you’re under 30 Australians can do a working holiday for up to 18 months. No restrictions on work (except for adult entertainment or bars).
I don’t think there is a specific site for design jobs in Japan catering to international people, but you can keep an eye out on Daijob, indeed, gaijinpot, LinkedIn etc. Try having a look at smaller digital marketing startups, foreign media outlets as well. If your Japanese isn’t N1/2, I’m not sure what your chances are of getting in with a Japanese design firm or agency.
I will DM you some other info too!
