Japanese straightening salon for black girl’s hair

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all surviving the heat!
I’m a black lady living in Tokyo and would like to ask if anyone knows the best salon to straighten my hair with Japanese perm.
My hair is already relaxed and I thought I could change to Japanese perm.
Anyone with experience straightening their hair with Japanese perm?
How long does it last?
Which treatment or brand do you recommend?

  1. Putting the location might help.

I guess a salon in Okinawa will not be much help… unless you live in Okinawa.

  2. I’m not a PoC but I got my hair straight permed at Hair Salon 712 in Shibuya and they did a fantastic job! It also left my hair super silky and soft. The hair dresser I had was Yuki and he speaks English. It’s a bit expensive though. On their website you can email inquiries and ask if they have experience with your hair type.

  3. I’d check around the US military bases (or see if you can find any of their threads online on where to look.) Guaranteed someone has the skinny on who can take care of your hair properly

  4. Sorry I can’t recommend a specific salon, but I suggest calling or emailing a few and asking whether they would be able to.

I have middle eastern thick and curly hair. One salon I went to, I just made an appointment online and showed up, the stylist was really flustered and kept saying thinks like よーしがんばります! While looking worried. Turned out alright not super straight but more relaxed and lasted about 4 months. I went to a different salon a year later and just booked a cut but the stylist asked if I wanted to try a straight perm. He seemed confident so I went along with it, however it didn’t take even after 2 sessions.

  5. I would be terrified to put a Japanese poem in my hair! I used Dr. Miracle for years and then I switched to Dark and Lovely. My hair was down my back and it broke off so bad I ended up cutting it all off. Now, I’m natural. Be careful. If it’s not broken don’t try to fix it…
