Go-to travel agencies for international flights.

I haven’t traveled outside if Japan for 4 or 5 years and it seems the indie travel agencies I used to use didn’t survive Covid. How are people finding flight deals (to the US in my case) these days?

  1. I haven’t found any deals, I just had to bite the bullet and travel. Think most companies are keeping the flight prices high due to various factors so and with the amount of demand Japan has right now, I don’t see it going down anytime soon.

My best advice is to check flights 2 months before traveling, there could be some good deals but probably nothing crazy cheap.

  2. From my understanding, it is not easy to ramp up flight quantity. Lots of staff got let go etc. On top of that, fuel is more expensive. Don’t expect similar prices as before covid for some time.

  3. Don’t use a travel agency. Buy direct from the airlines searching on the Internet.

Use Google, “x to y round trip”

If you haven’t traveled back to the US for four or five years, be prepared for a sticker shock. Covid and gas prices pushed everything up.

Also round-trip tickets from Japan to the US are more expensive than from the US to Japan.

If you are flying to the West Coast, check out zip air, they are probably the cheapest now to LA and San Jose

  4. I just find them on online travel agency websites. My OTA of choice is kiwi.com but you can always use others like expedia or skyscanner

  5. Don’t waste your time with agencies. They typically over charge.

You can easily do if yourself and save money.

Skyscanner ia a great site for finding cheap flights.

Google is great for finding hotel deals and event tickets.

  6. Unless you have a complex itinerary, it’s best to go directly with the airline. As other have said, most airlines are still behind in ramping up capacity post-Covid and there are fuel surcharges. Flights will be more expensive than you remember.

  7. As others say, go direct.

If anything does happen during your flight, you will be in a better position if you book direct.

Also, booking direct tends to be cheaper unless it’s a complicated itinerary or you are hunting for discount business class etc.
