I listen to the song 小名浜 by 鬼 all the time, love his flow and lyrics (of course having to look them in a dictionary a lot) but don’t know a whole lot of other good hip hop in the language. Any recommendations for some really hard hitting stuff with interesting lyrics? Are there any Japanese rappers revered in Japan the same way say Rakim, KRS One, Ice T, etc are in the US? Figure learning some more hip hop would be a fun way to study the language and build up my listening that still lags quite a bit behind my reading.

Alright, i don’t really know anyone with great lyrics, since i don’t speak the language at a level to understand more then a few words and overall music isn’t really good immersion imo, but here is about 17 h worth of jrap, selected by me https://spotify.link/cT5XHwh9Ryb
Hip Hop is just a much younger genre in Japan, so you don’t have people with the same long history who have influenced generations like you do in the US. I’m by no means a hip hop aficionado and make no claims that what I listen to is objectively good lol. Here are some artists I like or have been recommended to me by my Japanese students
– Chanmina
– Awich
– Mukade
– Inman
– L + City
– Ozworld
– Wilywnka
– Hentai Shinshi Club
Someone a couple days ago posted a YouTube Channel that analyzes rhyme schemes in Japanese rap songs, so that’d probably be of interest to you.
I also want to reiterate that listening to rap (or music generally) is not the best listening practice. Pronunciation is often modified to fit the beat. If it’s something your interested in and it helps with motivation though have at it! I would just caution against using it as a super serious study resource
