Any idea how long it takes for immigration bureau to send postcard for new visa?

Hi, I just graduated from uni, and have applied for visa change to designated activities 9, related to job hunting. It’s been well over 3 weeks, and I am getting kinda worried whether this isn’t going well. Could anyone share their experience on visa issuance that occured recently? I applied mine on tachikawa office

  1. My rule of thumb is a week before the expiry date on your current zairyuu card

Worry won’t change the result, so stop wasting your time with it. Did you search anywhere before asking? Three weeks is hardly worth even thinking about, and is quite normal.

  3. Out of Sendai it’s usually 3-4 weeks. I wouldn’t worry about it, so long as your visa is in processing you’re not getting tossed out of the country 😛

  4. How long is a piece of string?

All my visa renews (about 3 work. And 1 spouse) thus far has taken no more than 2 weeks. But then when I was on a table 1 visa, I had always notified immigration of changes and never engaged in activities outside my SOR/CoAE etc. My change from work to spouse to about 3 weeks.

Question: although this may seem obvious to immigration as you’re applying to change from student visa to a DA job hunting visa that you no longer study, but did you inform immigration within 14 days after you left your university, that you left your university? Not only is it a requirement of Article 19-16-1 of the ‘Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act’ but Not notifying immigration of job/school changes *could* result in longer visa processing for renews/changes because it then means immigration have to do more checks. I.e immigration could be wondering why you’re applying for a DA job hunting visa because they could be under the presumption you’re still a student. Of course if you notified them that you finished studying with the university then they would know you’re no longer studying.

Notification link for student visa is here: https://www.moj.go.jp/isa/applications/procedures/nyuukokukanri10_00014.html

  5. They’ll call you if they need something else. Give it time. It’s also the beginning of the year and the heaviest visa season (I think end of September is the other busy one for people moving over for the other school term).
