So I self studied or I guess I should say I was thrown into Japanese language learning from 2017 to 2018 cause I live here. My Japanese is basically only for everyday life but I’m really bad at grammar hence why I’m studying now. So this year I got a chance to go to an actual 日本語外語学校 and I got put in the morning class cause they said I wasn’t a beginner. So today we were reviewing stuff the other students learned last year and it’s something like this :
1。もしませんでした and we had to change it so I wrote もたなかった。
2。きれいじゃありません and I wrote きれいじゃない
3。ざんねんでした ざんねんだった
What is this called? I pretty much guessed everything based off the examples they had up but I just want to know what it’s called. This school none of my teachers speak English and all the students don’t speak English(hopefully this just helps force me to learn Japanese lol) so I’m just going off whatever I’m learning and go home to look it up. We are currently doing N3 practice cause of the JLPT’s but some students are doing the N4 because they’re not confident (me neither lmaooo) to pass the N3.
We reviewed this and did a lot of other reviews for past material but if anyone could give me some insight of what I should study to master this it would be great! 皆さんありがとうございます♪

Looks like you are converting from the polite masu form to a casual or informal form, at least that’s what my school calls it.
もちませんでした not もし

The つ in もつ can only turn into another t-letter during conjugation, never an s-letter like し
